"HOW DO I
PERSUADE MY WIFE THAT I NEED SOME "ME" TIME?"
My wife and I have been married for 12 years. We have
had a very good relationship and were good friends prior
to our involvement romantically. However, we have never
been able to agree on one issue - and despite my naive
notion that time will heal, the problem is threatening
to destroy our marriage. She does not understand that I
need some "my time", because even if we are together, I
should still be able to practise sport, take a walk,
cycle or any activity, obviously considering that a
healthy balance is maintained. She feels that if I
really loved her and the kids, I would not require this
time alone.
This situation is aggravated by the fact that I travel
quite a lot, however this is never "my time" either.
Always tied up with customers and colleagues. I feel
that I am giving all I can to my work and family
-leaving myself unattended. I need sport - and I have
always understood that this is important for any human
being. We tried doing this together, however we have not
got the same physical ability - so I can't see how this
could work. We are at serious crossroads and I don't
know how to proceed.
